Following a major strike by Iran, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) have committed to standing with Israel in a show of strong international unity. The attack, which made heavy use of drones and missiles, has raised tensions in the area and raised worries about possible escalation into larger-scale fighting. The G7, consisting of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, convened in a virtual summit led by the Italian presidency to address the critical situation. The summit also included key figures from the European Union, notably the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. In a joint statement released after the meeting, the G7 leaders conveyed a strong message of unity and support for Israel. “We express our solidarity and full support for Israel and its people and reaffirm our commitment to its security,” the statement read, emphasizing the group’s dedication to standing with Israel in the face of aggression.
