Investigation completed: There is no evidence of Russian involvement in the 2016 US election

During Republican Donald Trump’s presidency, the FBI made a series of allegations about Russian involvement in the presidential election. Nevertheless, the former president has always categorically denied any kind of external interference in the electoral process. Republicans have appointed special counsel John Durham to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 US presidential election. The 300-page conclusion is another blow to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in relation to the way he handled the 2016 election, which destroyed his reputation. Durham said the FBI’s investigation should never have been launched because investigators “neglected or deliberately ignored” information that did not support preliminary theories that there was collusion between Trump and Russia.

However, in a passage from the report that is sure to be highlighted by the former Republican president for political purposes, he claimed that neither US law enforcement nor the intelligence community appeared to have had “any real evidence of involvement”. , before investigating Trump. In the race within the Republican Party to nominate the candidate for the presidential elections in the fall of 2024, the story of Russia’s involvement is again brought to the public’s attention. Although Durham’s report does not bring new, unknown information, being generically worded with statements like “it appears that” or “it is possible that”, this topic seems important to Republican politicians, while to the average American it doesn’t matter at all. After the report was published, Trump was quick to claim that he was a victim of the “Deep State”. “The American public was deceived, just as it is being deceived now by those who do not want to see the greatness of America,” Trump wrote. The Republican senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, claimed that the report shows that “the rule of law in America is enslaved to political games, being an evolution and a very dangerous moment in the history of the country.” Some may find Graham’s comments ironic, as the same accusation was often leveled at Trump while he was in office. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, a top Trump ally, said he would use Durham’s report to revive his investigation into the allegations against the former president, according to CNN.
