According to four people with firsthand knowledge of the situation, China has officially announced that it would not be attending the peace summit in Ukraine that Switzerland is hosting next month. The goal of the summit, which is set for June 15–16, is to encourage widespread communication in order to start a peace process in Ukraine. Three of the sources state that Beijing’s decision to withdraw is due to certain requirements not being fulfilled, such as Russia and Ukraine’s participation. The Swiss government, known for its longstanding neutrality, has been actively working to gather a diverse array of participants from various regions of the world. The intent behind this inclusive approach is to create a comprehensive platform for addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Despite these efforts, the absence of an invitation to Moscow has become a significant sticking point for China.
