Bastille Day, known in France as La Fête Nationale, is celebrated with immense fervor and national pride every year on July 14th. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, a pivotal event during the French Revolution which symbolizes the end of absolute monarchy and the birth of the sovereign nation. In 2024, as in every year, the streets of France will brim with celebrations, reflecting the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. The storming of the Bastille was not just a physical act of rebellion but a potent symbol of the people’s resistance against oppression. The Bastille, a fortress-prison in Paris, held political prisoners whose incarceration was ordered directly by the king. By capturing it, the revolutionaries signaled the collapse of the old regime and the rise of a new era of liberty, equality, and fraternity. This day marked the beginning of a series of events that would reshape France and influence the course of world history.
