Saudi Arabia: A Potential Neutral Ground for Putin-Trump Talks in 2025

A high-stakes meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2025 may take place in Saudi Arabia, in a surprise development in world diplomacy. The ongoing confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, which started in February 2022, is the focus of this summit, according to a recent report by the Russian news agency TASS. Although Switzerland has long been a neutral setting for these kinds of diplomatic meetings, Moscow is apparently reluctant to accept this venue because of worries about Switzerland’s alleged lack of neutrality. Saudi Arabia offers a unique position as a host for these critical discussions. The Kingdom’s lack of recognition for the International Criminal Court (ICC) aligns with Russia’s stance, providing a comfortable environment for Putin. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has actively played a mediating role in the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, notably facilitating prisoner exchanges. This involvement underscores its capacity to act as a neutral intermediary, making it an appealing choice for both parties.
