Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Arrested in Paris as Part of Criminal Investigation

Pavel Durov, the enigmatic CEO and founder of Telegram, was apprehended on Saturday at Le Bourget airport near Paris, according to multiple reports citing French media sources. The arrest occurred as Durov was preparing to depart on his private jet, marking a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of Telegram’s content moderation policies. The arrest is reportedly linked to a preliminary police investigation into alleged criminal activities facilitated through the messaging platform. According to Reuters, the investigation focuses on serious offenses such as fraud, drug trafficking, and organized crime. Authorities have accused Telegram of failing to adequately moderate content that may be linked to these illegal activities. Telegram has long been under pressure from various governments to enhance its content moderation efforts.
