A shocking act of violence has left two members of the Israeli embassy staff dead following a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum on Wednesday evening. The FBI and local authorities are investigating the incident as a potential targeted attack, raising deep concerns over the escalation of antisemitic violence in the United States and around the world. The victims, identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, were both staff members at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. Lischinsky served as a researcher in the embassy’s political department, while Milgrim was responsible for organizing U.S. missions to Israel. According to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the pair were about to become engaged and were attending a conference hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) at the time of the attack. During a press conference on Thursday morning, a visibly shaken Sa’ar condemned the shooting as “a horrific terrorist attack,” adding, “This is the direct result of toxic antisemitic incitement against Israel and Jews around the world that has been going on since the October 7th massacre. I have been worried for the past few months that something like this would happen. And it did.”

According to officials, the incident occurred just outside the Capital Jewish Museum, a short distance from the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Witnesses reported that the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, shouted “free, free Palestine” immediately after opening fire on Lischinsky and Milgrim.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that an FBI police officer stationed nearby responded within moments, providing aid to the victims before emergency services arrived. Despite their efforts, both Lischinsky and Milgrim succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Rodriguez was promptly taken into custody and is currently being questioned by authorities. The U.S. Attorney’s office and the FBI’s Washington Field Office are reviewing evidence to determine the appropriate charges and next steps in the investigation.
The attack has sparked outrage and fear within the Jewish community, both locally and internationally. Leaders from across the political and religious spectrum have condemned the shooting as an
In a statement, the American Jewish Committee called the attack “a devastating reminder of the dangers Jewish communities face worldwide,” and urged law enforcement to “bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of Jewish institutions everywhere.” The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that neither Lischinsky nor Milgrim were diplomats, but dedicated embassy staffers committed to fostering understanding and cooperation between Israel and the United States.
This tragedy comes amid a troubling increase in antisemitic incidents globally, particularly following the events of October 7th, which have heightened tensions and led to widespread protests and violence. “This is not an isolated case, but part of a worrying trend that we must confront together,” said Minister Sa’ar. The FBI has ramped up security measures around Jewish institutions in the capital and is urging all communities to remain vigilant. As the investigation continues, authorities say they are committed to uncovering the full details surrounding the attack. “Our FBI team is fully engaged, and we will get you answers as soon as we can, without compromising additional leads,” said Deputy Director Bongino. In the meantime, the loss of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim is being mourned by colleagues, friends, and loved ones on both sides of the Atlantic — a somber reminder of the real-world consequences of hatred and extremism.
