Russia blocked a draft resolution on Libya on Wednesday, which will be subject to a vote on Thursday at the UN Security Council, according to diplomatic sources.

A tacit acceptance procedure was established for this resolution text that expired on Wednesday at 7:00 pm and at the end of which a green light could be given for a vote in the next 24 hours. Shortly before 19:00, Russia blocked this procedure, requesting a number of amendments to the project.

In a report from the end of 2019, UN experts denounced the presence in Libya of armed groups from Sudan and Chad. For several months, Russia has also been accused of supporting the bringing in Libya of thousands of mercenaries from the Russian Wagner group, in support of Marshal Haftar, accusation rejected by Moscow.
