On Friday, China issued a statement encouraging the United States to adopt a constructive approach to Middle Eastern affairs. This call came in the wake of a telephone discussion held on April 11 between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as announced by Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the conversation, Minister Wang Yi conveyed China’s strong condemnation of the recent attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria, emphasizing the principle that the security and sanctity of diplomatic institutions are fundamental and non-negotiable under international law. He further asserted that the sovereignty of both Iran and Syria should be respected. The dialogue between the top diplomats of China and the United States signifies an ongoing engagement between the two nations on issues of global and regional importance. While details of the conversation have been limited, the Chinese side has publicly highlighted its stance on the protection of diplomatic missions, a viewpoint that resonates with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, to which both China and the United States are parties.
