New progress along The Belt and Road China: Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway agreement signed

Building a railway connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan has always been the idea of the three countries. Twenty-seven years later, the idea is finally making significant progress. Once the railway is built, it will become the shortest access between China and Central Asian countries. From East Asia to the Middle East and Southern Europe, the rail journey will be shortened by about 900 kilometers. Meanwhile, compared to the current level, once completed, it will save 7 to 8 days. This article introduces the history of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, explaining its economic significance and its essential to the construction of the Belt and Road. On June 6, 2024, the signing ceremony of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway agreement was held in Beijing. The presidents of the three countries congratulated the signing of the agreement via video link. The signing of this agreement will provide a solid legal foundation for constructing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, marking that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is turning from an idea into a reality.
