Since its inception, “Patriots for Europe” has rapidly expanded, with five more parties from different European countries announcing their accession. These include:

1Party for Freedom (PVV) – Led by the controversial Dutch politician Geert Wilders, the PVV has long been known for its hardline stance on immigration and Euroscepticism.
  
Chega – A Portuguese party that has gained traction with its calls for stringent immigration controls and a return to traditional values.

VOX – A Spanish party that has risen to prominence with its nationalist rhetoric and opposition to regional separatist movements within Spain.

Danish People’s Party – Known for its strong stance on immigration and welfare policies, it has been a significant force in Danish politics.

Vlaams Belang – A far-right Flemish separatist party from Belgium, which advocates for the independence of Flanders and has been critical of the EU’s policies on regional autonomy.

The last to announce their entry, on Saturday, were the Danish People’s Party and Vlaams Belang, solidifying the alliance’s status and influence within the European Parliament.

The formation of “Patriots for Europe” not only highlights the growing influence of right-wing sovereignist movements within the EU but also poses potential challenges to the bloc’s cohesion and policy-making processes. With group status, the alliance will have increased resources, speaking time, and the ability to shape legislative agendas.

This development is likely to intensify debates on key issues such as immigration, national sovereignty, and the future direction of the EU. The alliance is expected to push back against further integration and advocate for reforms that return more powers to member states.

Reactions to the new alliance have been mixed. Supporters argue that it represents a necessary counterbalance to the EU’s perceived centralization and will give a voice to citizens who feel marginalized by current policies. Critics, however, warn that the rise of such a group could undermine the EU’s unity and its ability to address transnational challenges effectively.

As the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union gets underway, all eyes will be on how “Patriots for Europe” navigates its newfound influence. The alliance’s success or failure in shaping EU policies could have lasting repercussions for the future of European integration and the political landscape of the continent.
