Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign in the critical battleground state of Wisconsin on Tuesday, marking her first visit as the Democratic presidential candidate. This follows a significant development in the Democratic Party’s race for the 2024 presidential nomination. Harris’s path to the nomination was cleared after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the reelection campaign on Sunday. Biden’s decision came after weeks of internal party disputes and unfavorable internal polls that indicated a steep decline in his support in a potential rematch against Republican rival, former President Donald Trump.

In a swift turn of events, less than 36 hours after Biden endorsed Harris, she secured the necessary pledged support from a majority of the party’s delegates on Monday night. These delegates are responsible for officially determining the party’s nominee at the Democratic National Convention.
“Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee,” Harris stated late Monday night. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”
Harris’s campaign in Wisconsin underscores the state’s importance in the upcoming election. Wisconsin, a pivotal swing state, has historically played a crucial role in determining the outcome of presidential races. Harris’s visit aims to galvanize support and rally voters in a state that could be decisive in the November election.
As the first female Vice President and the first woman of color to be nominated for the presidency by a major political party, Harris’s candidacy represents a historic moment in American politics. Her campaign will focus on uniting the Democratic base, addressing key policy issues, and building a broad coalition to challenge the Republican nominee.
The upcoming weeks will be critical as Harris prepares to solidify her position within the party and appeal to a wider electorate. Her visit to Wisconsin is the beginning of a series of strategic campaign stops intended to strengthen her presence in battleground states. With the Democratic nomination secured, Harris’s next steps will be closely watched as she transitions from Vice President to the party’s standard-bearer in the race for the White House.
