The international community has voiced significant concern following a recent incident in which an Israeli air strike reportedly hit an aid convoy, resulting in the deaths of seven humanitarian workers from the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity. The workers, of diverse nationalities including Australian, British, Palestinian, Polish, and US-Canadian, were part of a mission to distribute aid in war-torn Gaza. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has characterized the incident and the subsequent reaction by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as sources of “understandable anger”. The strike, which occurred on Monday, has sparked a wave of international outrage and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation. The WCK, known for its international disaster relief efforts, claimed that the strike was targeted, which would indicate a possible breach of international law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality under the Geneva Conventions. These principles obligate belligerents to distinguish between military targets and civilians and to ensure that any military action is proportional to the military advantage anticipated.
