The World Economic Forum and the Saudi Space Agency have partnered to create the Centre for Space Futures, a significant step forward for international space cooperation. This innovative project is the first of its kind to concentrate solely on the limitless options that space offers. The Centre for Space Futures will be a beacon of innovation, dedicated to nurturing international cooperation, fostering economic development, and promoting sustainable practices in the burgeoning field of space exploration and technology. This landmark agreement comes at a time when interest in space has reached unprecedented levels, not just as a frontier for exploration but as a catalyst for solving some of the most pressing challenges on Earth. From climate monitoring to disaster management and global communications, the applications of space technology are vast and deeply integrated into the fabric of modern life. The Centre for Space Futures will operate as a think tank and research hub, bringing together the brightest minds from around the globe to envision the role of space in future societies. It will focus on a wide array of topics, including space economy, space law, policy, ethics, and governance. Moreover, it will delve into how space technologies can contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that space exploration advances hand in hand with environmental and social responsibility.

“The establishment of the Centre for Space Futures is a significant step towards creating a shared vision for space and its role in our collective future,” said the Director of the Saudi Space Agency. “We are proud to partner with the World Economic Forum, an organization that exemplifies commitment to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation.”
The World Economic Forum, known for its annual Davos meeting that convenes global leaders to shape global, regional, and industry agendas, brings to the partnership a wealth of experience in driving initiatives that have a positive and lasting impact on the world.
“Space is the next frontier for innovation and collaboration,” stated the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. “Through the Centre for Space Futures, we aim to establish a platform where policy-makers, industry experts, and academia can come together to create the policies and partnerships necessary for a sustainable and inclusive future in space.”
The Centre for Space Futures is also an affirmation of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to becoming a significant player in the global space arena. The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan highlights space as a strategic sector for development, aiming to leverage its geographic position and growing technological capabilities to become a hub for space science and industry.
In addition to research and policy development, the Centre will also focus on education and capacity-building initiatives, inspiring the next generation of space professionals and enthusiasts. Through collaborative programs, workshops, and conferences, the Centre will contribute to the creation of a skilled workforce that can propel the space industry forward.
As humanity stands on the cusp of a new era of space exploration, the Centre for Space Futures promises to be a guiding star, illuminating the path to a future where space is a source of prosperity, knowledge, and hope for people all around the world. This visionary project is not just about reaching new heights but about ensuring that the journey towards the stars benefits all of humankind.
