Today, January 27, 2025, marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Marrakesh Agreement, which led to the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Signed by 123 countries on April 15, 1994, the agreement officially brought the WTO into existence on January 1, 1995. Over the past three decades, the WTO has played a crucial role in shaping the global trade landscape, fostering economic growth, and promoting sustainable development. Since its inception, the WTO has been instrumental in facilitating a major expansion in global trade. By providing a framework for trade negotiations and dispute resolution, the organization has helped to lower trade barriers and increase the flow of goods and services across borders. The WTO’s efforts have contributed to raising living standards, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing economic prosperity worldwide. One of the key achievements of the WTO has been the successful negotiation of various trade agreements, which have led to a more open and integrated global economy. These agreements have not only reduced tariffs but also addressed complex issues such as intellectual property rights, trade in services, and environmental protection.
