These systems can operate independently of human controllers, improving precision and reducing risks to personnel. The use of AI in defense is not without controversy. Key issues include the ethical implications of autonomous weapons and the risk of an AI arms race. Autonomous Weapons: These systems raise profound ethical questions. There are concerns about the ability of AI to distinguish between combatants and non-combatants, and the absence of human judgment in life-and-death situations.
