The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has made an impassioned appeal to the nation’s major investment firms. The premier has urged these financial powerhouses to channel significant resources into the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a sector she believes is crucial for the future of Italy’s economy and global competitiveness. During a recent conference on technology and innovation, Meloni laid out a vision for an “Italian path to artificial intelligence.” She emphasized the importance of fostering a distinctive, national approach to AI, one that leverages Italy’s unique strengths, cultural heritage, and existing industrial ecosystem. “We are convinced that there can and must be an Italian path to artificial intelligence, an Italian path to the development of artificial intelligence,” Meloni declared. To realize this vision, the Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of strong support for research and experimentation. This is particularly relevant for Italy’s existing production entities, which, according to Meloni, possess great potential that must be unlocked through strategic investments and partnerships. By doing so, these entities could become more robust and competitive on the global stage.
