The scenic landscapes and vibrant cultures of Laos and Southwest China’s Yunnan province have witnessed a remarkable upsurge in regional tourism, thanks to the successful introduction of passenger services on the Laos-China railway. This new connection, which stretches from the Lao capital of Vientiane to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, has not only facilitated travel but also invigorated the local economies and fostered stronger cultural ties. Since its inauguration on April 13 last year, the Laos-China railway has become a beacon of convenience and efficiency, attracting a substantial number of travelers eager to explore the rich heritage and natural beauty of both regions. In just under a year, an impressive 172,023 passengers embarked on this journey, marking a significant milestone in regional connectivity and tourism. Lao Deputy Minister of Tourism Darany Phommavongsa shared these encouraging statistics during a meeting with a group of ASEAN journalists, who were touring the railway as part of a broader initiative to promote the region’s tourism potential. The railway, he noted, has not only provided a reliable and comfortable mode of transportation but has also opened up new opportunities for economic development and cultural exchange.
