The Omani-Yemeni diplomatic relationship is a long-standing one, shaped by historical ties, geographical proximity, and shared cultural and religious backgrounds. This bond has, over the years, evolved and adapted to the changing geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East. The relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen has been characterized by constructive dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation, despite the various tumultuous periods that the region has experienced. Oman and Yemen, both situated on the Arabian Peninsula, have always shared a close relationship due to their shared history and cultural ties. The two nations have been trading partners for centuries, with goods, ideas, and people moving freely across their borders. The establishment of formal diplomatic relations in the 20th century strengthened these connections, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation in several areas, including trade, security, and culture. Oman has played a significant role in Yemen since the onset of the civil war in 2015. Despite being part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Oman refrained from joining the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Instead, the Sultanate has positioned itself as a neutral party and a mediator, offering its good offices to facilitate dialogue between the warring parties.
